Hope Banach (Hyde Park)
Arias, Argentina
August 11, 2013
Last night we performed at the
birthday celebration of a small town called Arias. We joined two local
choirs—one of children and another of adults—for a concert at Arias’s Cultural
Center. We concluded the concert with a special selection of our favorite
pieces, including the debut of the popular Argentine melody, “Por una Cabeza.”
After many bus rehearsals with Tal, it was fantastic to be able to perform for
people who appreciated our take on the classic tango as much as our audience
did. The other two choirs (one adult and one children’s) sang well, and we
enjoyed their songs very much. When the concert ended, we ate a delicious asado
dinner with our new friends that included a variety of meats, bread, and salad.
It was a fun and exciting experience to talk to the other choirs, who were, by
the way, quite friendly and hospitable, and to partake in each other’s
cultures. We all had a great time singing together, laughing together, and
celebrating a very important day for the people of Arias.
